Fishing Retreat
Micro-capsule for a Fishing Enthusiast

Project Description

Nestled among the trees and perched atop the vast, tranquil water body of MacRitchie Reservoir, the micro-capsule is poised to act as a retreat away from the hustle-and-bustle of urban life. After all, the client, a fishing enthusiast, leads a hectic life in Singapore and his wish was to have a private fishing retreat away from the prying eyes of the public, one that could also recreate the fishing trips he frequents overseas.

The premise of the project thus draws upon the client's peculiar loathing of the typical jetty typology in Singapore, which is often characterised by its rigid and artificial vibe, where he prefers very much the experience of fishing in the wilderness - an escape where the client is one with nature and close to the fish. As a result, the design of the fishing retreat seeks to embody the private experience as a place for ‘refuge’ and ‘occupation’, as well as the wilderness experience as a place for ‘prospect’ and ‘leisure’.
