Reimagining Whampoa Community Club
This project investigates the current programmatic usage patterns in the existing community club (CC) in Whampoa and speculates how it may be remodeled to better cater to the residents’ needs, especially in the long-term post-pandemic situation. Besides improving the spatial and potential network qualities of the current CC’s public amenities and facilities, the typological framework of the frequented childcare and active-ageing centre has been re-looked at.
The premise for the remake of Whampoa CC thus lies in how form follows health and well-being, in which activated public spaces, greater connections to the outdoors and the interweaving of seemingly disparate programmes play central roles towards the eventual design manifestation - qualities that were once lacking in the CC but deemed as essential for a healthful, post-pandemic urban environment.
